Before You Start
Transferring your domain to MevoHost consolidates your domain and hosting management in one place — one login, one invoice. The process typically takes 3–7 days to complete, but your website and email stay online throughout.
Before you begin, make sure you have the following ready:
Domain expiring soon?
If your domain expires within 15 days, renew it at your current registrar first. Most registrars will refuse to release a domain that is close to expiry.
Step 1: Unlock Your Domain
Most registrars enable domain lock by default to prevent unauthorised transfers. You need to disable this before your transfer can proceed.
Log into your current registrar
- 1Go to your current registrar's website and sign in
- 2Find the domain management section — often labelled "My Domains" or "Domain List"
Disable domain lock
- 1Locate the lock or transfer-lock setting for your domain
- 2Turn it off — it may be labelled "Registrar Lock", "Transfer Lock", or "Domain Protection"
- 3Save the change and wait 10–15 minutes for it to take effect
Step 2: Request Your Authorization Code
The authorization code (also called an EPP code or transfer code) is a unique password that proves you own the domain. Your current registrar must provide it.
In your registrar's control panel, find the domain management section and look for an option labelled "Authorization Code", "EPP Code", or "Transfer Code". Request it and save it somewhere safe — you'll need it in Step 3.
Authorization code not showing?
Some registrars send the code by email rather than displaying it in the control panel. Check your inbox. If nothing arrives within 30 minutes, contact their support team — they are required by ICANN to provide it.
Step 3: Start the Transfer in Your MevoHost Account
With your authorization code ready, log into your MevoHost control panel and follow these steps:
Step 4: Confirm the Verification Email
After initiating the transfer, MevoHost sends a verification email to the admin contact address on your domain. Click the confirmation link within 5–7 days to proceed.
Your old registrar may also send a transfer notification. You can approve it there, or simply wait — registrars auto-approve transfers after the standard verification period.
Can't find the verification email?
Check your spam or junk folder. If the admin contact email address is no longer accessible, contact MevoHost support — they can help verify ownership through alternative means.
What to Expect During the Transfer
Domain transfers follow a standard ICANN process. Here is what happens and when:
Hours 1–2
Confirmation and verification emails arrive from MevoHost
Days 1–5
Verification window — click the link in your confirmation email
Days 5–7
Domain transfers to MevoHost nameservers after approval
Day 7+
Transfer complete — your domain is fully managed through MevoHost
No downtime during transfer. Your website and email remain online throughout the entire process — visitors reach your site normally.
Nameserver Changes After Transfer
If you want to host your website and email with MevoHost, update your nameservers after the transfer completes. Log into your MevoHost control panel, copy the nameserver addresses assigned to your account, then update them in your domain settings.
If you prefer to keep your site or email hosted elsewhere, you can leave your existing nameservers in place — the domain transfer will still complete without issue.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Most transfer problems have straightforward fixes:
Transfer stuck after 7 days
Check your email (including spam) for the verification link. If you can't find it, contact MevoHost support with your domain name — they can resend the verification email.
Old registrar rejected the transfer
Some registrars require active approval in their control panel. Log back into your old registrar and look for a pending transfer notification to approve.
Domain still showing as locked
Repeat Step 1 to unlock the domain again. If the lock won't release, contact your old registrar's support team — they are required to assist with this under ICANN rules.
