Before You Start

The free SSL certificate is issued automatically once your domain is pointing to MevoHost nameservers. If your domain is registered elsewhere and you haven't updated the nameservers yet, do that first — the certificate can only be issued when your domain is resolving on MevoHost's servers.

Not sure if your nameservers are correct? Log into your MevoHost control panel and check your domain settings. If the nameservers listed don't match MevoHost's, update them at your domain registrar before continuing.

~30m
Activation time

Certificate issues and propagates across the network within 30 minutes of activation.

Auto-renews

Your Let's Encrypt certificate renews automatically — you never need to think about it again.

Step 1: Log Into Your MevoHost Control Panel

Go to cp.mevohost.com and sign in with your account credentials. From your dashboard, select the hosting package you want to add SSL to.

Step 2: Open the SSL/TLS Settings

Inside your hosting package, find the Security section. Click the SSL/TLS option. You'll see a list of all domains associated with your hosting account.

Step 3: Activate Your Free SSL Certificate

Follow these steps to issue your certificate:

01

Find your domain in the SSL list

  1. 1You will see all domains on your hosting account listed here
  2. 2Locate the domain you want to secure with HTTPS
02

Click Activate Free SSL

  1. 1Next to your domain name, click the Activate Free SSL button
  2. 2The system will begin issuing a Let's Encrypt certificate
  3. 3A confirmation message will appear — the certificate is now being issued
03

Wait for the certificate to propagate

  1. 1Allow up to 30 minutes for the certificate to be fully installed
  2. 2The change propagates across the network during this time
  3. 3Your site will start loading on HTTPS once propagation is complete
04

Verify the certificate is active

  1. 1Visit your website in a browser after 30 minutes
  2. 2Look for the padlock icon in the address bar — this confirms SSL is active
  3. 3If the padlock is not showing, try in a private/incognito window first (cache issue)

Step 4: Enable HTTPS Redirect (Recommended)

Once your SSL is active, turn on the HTTPS redirect. This forces all visitors to the secure version of your site — anyone who types http://yourdomain.com will automatically be sent to https://yourdomain.com. You'll find this option directly below the SSL activation button. Click Enable.

Why the HTTPS redirect matters

Without the redirect, some visitors may land on the unsecured HTTP version — especially those coming from old links or bookmarks. Enabling it ensures 100% of your traffic is encrypted and the padlock always appears, no exceptions.

What Happens Next

After up to 30 minutes, your site will load securely on HTTPS and the padlock will appear in visitors' browsers. Your certificate renews automatically — you don't need to do anything to keep it active.

Good for SEO: Google uses HTTPS as a ranking signal. Switching from HTTP to HTTPS can give your site a small but consistent ranking boost — and removes the "Not Secure" warning that increases bounce rates.

Troubleshooting

Most SSL issues have a simple fix:

🚫

"Domain not eligible" error

Your domain is not yet pointing to MevoHost nameservers. Update your nameservers at your domain registrar and wait for DNS propagation (up to 48 hours) before trying again.

🔒

Padlock not appearing after 30 minutes

Clear your browser cache and check in a private or incognito window. If the issue persists, open a support ticket from your MevoHost control panel and our team will investigate.

⚠️

Mixed content warning

Your site is loading some resources over HTTP — usually images, stylesheets, or scripts with hardcoded http:// URLs. Update those URLs to https:// in your site content or CMS settings to resolve the warning.
